Got a Tip?

Carrie Fisher’s Brother Reveals Original ‘Rise Of Skywalker’ Plan Included Leia Going Full Jedi With Her Own Lightsaber

Unfortunately, due to the tragic death of Carrie Fisher, we’ll never know exactly how Lucasfilm planned on ending the story of Leia Organa in the “Star Wars” films. Obviously, we all know that she’ll appear in ‘Rise of Skywalker,’ with Fisher giving us a bit of a send-off. But due to the limited nature of technology, fans won’t get to see the original plan come to fruition. And according to a new interview with Yahoo, Todd Fisher, Carrie’s brother, explained just how epic that final appearance could have been.

The report said Leia would become a “full-fledged Jedi warrior, complete with her very own lightsaber” in the original version of the upcoming “Star Wars” film.

“She was going to be the big payoff in the final film,” Todd Fisher said. “She was going to be the last Jedi, so to speak. That’s cool right?”

As for how Carrie Fisher is able to appear in ‘Rise of Skywalker’ without actually shooting any footage for the film, her brother revealed that there is about eight minutes of unused footage from ‘The Force Awakens’ that director JJ Abrams has been able to repurpose.

“They had eight minutes of footage,” Fisher said. “They grabbed every frame and analyzed it… and then reverse-engineered it and [got] it into the story the right way. It’s kind of magical.”

Her brother continued by saying that her appearance in ‘Skywalker’ is a payoff, of sorts, allowing for Fisher to communicate with fans even though she has passed.

“This is, in its own way, a payoff. … It’s Carrie talking to us all from beyond,” he said. “The beautiful thing about the concept of the Force is that there is no real death; you just exist in another dimension. So Carrie is looking down or sideways or wherever and is still part of us. To be able to see that — it’s magical stuff only in the movies.”

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” arrives in theaters on December 20.
