Got a Tip?

Carey Mulligan Feels ‘The Fury’ For Women’s Rights

Carey Mulligan

There are few faster rising UK writers at the moment than Abi Morgan. Under her impressive belt already is Steve McQueen’s “Shame,” the Meryl Streep starring biopic “The Iron Lady,” the already missed Brit series “The Hour” and the movie which arguably kicked it all off for her career, “Brick Lane.” Morgan’s career continues to grow in leaps and bounds, and now she’s getting a pretty top shelf actress to lead her latest project.

Deadline reports that Carey Mulligan will take the lead in “The Fury.” The film has been developing for the past couple of years, and as you might guess from the former title “Suffragettes,” it’s based on a true story and tells of a pivotal point in history for women in the U.K. While exact details are being kept under wraps, the movie is expected to be an ensemble drama, following a number of suffragettes, and we can only imagine that key figures like Emmeline Pankhurst, the militant leader of the Women’s Social and Political Union, and Emily Davidson (trampled in 1913 by the king’s racehorse) will be part of the story.

Sarah Gavron, who also directed the Morgan-penned “Brick Lane,” will be at the helm of the picture. We’d wager this likely lens in 2014 as up next for Mulligan is Thomas Vineterberg‘s “Far From The Madding Crowd” which shoots this fall.
