Got a Tip?

‘Captain Marvel’ Hits $1 Billion In Less Than One Month & Becomes Marvel Studios’ 7th Film To Reach Milestone

After the massive global opening weekend for Brie Larson’sCaptain Marvel,” we knew that the highly coveted $1 billion milestone was well within its reach. And today, after only 27 days of release, “Captain Marvel” has reached $1 billion worldwide.

According to Variety, the 21st Marvel Studios film current sits at $358 million domestically and $645 million overseas, for a global gross of $1.003 billion. Perhaps even more impressive is the company that “Captain Marvel” ranks among now that it has joined the billion-dollar club.

“Captain Marvel” is now the 7th MCU film to reach the milestone, and only the second film to do so without the help of Robert Downey, Jr. in the cast (“Black Panther” is the only other one). The film also comes in as the 18th overall billion-dollar earner released by Disney (out of 38 total films to reach the number). And with “Avengers: Endgame” likely to reach $1 billion in only several days of release, Disney is likely looking at 19 films out of 39 total to reach the milestone. That’s absolutely incredible.

We still have to see how “Captain Marvel” does against the stiff competition coming in the new few weeks (before ‘Endgame’). If the film has another $100 million left in it, we could be looking at the Brie Larson film approaching the top 20 grossing films of all time. To do so, however, the film would have to knock “Aquaman” out of the group, with its $1.147 billion gross. So, it’s not a certainty, at this point.

And obviously, “Captain Marvel” is the highest grossing film for star Brie Larson. Her next biggest film is 2017’s “Kong: Skull Island,” which earned a respectable $566 million worldwide. As for the filmmakers involved, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, their Marvel Studios film easily beat the lifetime grosses of all their films, with their next closest being 2010’s “It’s Kind Of A Funny Story,” which earned a paltry $6.5 million worldwide.
