With the cast firmed up and production now underway in Hawaii, plot details for “Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” have finally emerged via a lengthy press release from Disney for the film.
This time around, Captain Jack Sparrow will apparently be chasing down the fountain of youth with Penelope Cruz, who may or may not be a trustworthy ally. Here is the summary:
In this action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise, Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), and he’s not sure if it’s love–or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.
Sounds interesting enough, but can we just ask one thing: Can this movie please come in at under two and a half hours? With each progressive film, the running time has gotten longer and longer with “Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End” nearing the three hour mark. Way, way too long. Here’s hoping they can keep this one similar to the frothy fun of the original rather than bloated wheeze of its subsequent sequels.
“Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” stars Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, Stephen Graham, Sam Clafin, Geoffrey Rush, Astrid Berges-Frisbey and Gemma Ward, with Rob Marshall directing, and will dock in theaters on May 20, 2011 in 3D.
