More news from the MCU front today, as “Captain America 4” has found its director. And The Hollywood Reporter reports that it’s none other than Julius Onah, director of 2018’s “The Cloverfield Paradox” and 2019’s “Luce.” It’s the Nigerian-American filmmaker’s first rodeo with Marvel Studios, but he’ll be in good company on the new movie.

Anthony Mackie returns as Sam Wilson in “Captain America” to officially don the Captain America mantle for the first time. Chris Evans‘ Steve Rogers passed the torch to Wilson at the end of the “Avengers: Endgame,” but Wilson wasn’t sure if he was up to the challenge. Disney+‘s “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier” saw Wilson overcome that doubt and leave his Falcon days behind to become the hero Rogers wanted him to be.
Speaking of “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier,” series creator Malcolm Spellman is on board for “Captain America 4” to write the script. Joining him in Dalan Musson as co-writer, who worked as a staff writer on the show. Marvel hasn’t announced any other cast or crew yet.
The big question surrounding “Captain America 4” is whether or not Evans will return as Steve Rogers. The ex-Captain America is presumed dead in the MCU at the moment, with everyone in “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier” speaking about him in the past tense for the entire series. However, this is a Marvel movie, so speculation about Evan’s possible return has been constant since he “retired’ from the role after “Endgame.” In fact, interviewers inundated Evans with questions about whether he’ll return to the Captain America role on his press tours for “Lightyear.” Evans remains firm that he’s done with the role, but none of the fanboys believe that.
In any case, fans now know who will be behind the camera for “Captain America 4.” Onah’s “Luce” got three Indie Spirit Awards nominations, including best director. How will he fare in the big-budget world of the MCU, though? We’ll soon find out.
