Got a Tip?

‘Capone’ Trailer: Tom Hardy & His Cigar Might Be Hiding Money In Josh Trank’s New Film

It’s finally here! After literally years of waiting, we finally get to see the first trailer for “Capone,” the drama starring Tom Hardy as a dementia-ridden Al Capone. The film has been on our radar in a big way since 2018, when Hardy began posting incredible behind-the-scenes pictures and talking about how insane this film was going to be. Formerly titled “Fonzo,” distributor Vertical Entertainment recently landed the film and has offered up a new trailer.

The trailer is everything we’d hoped it would be. The film sets up the idea that Capone is now dealing with dementia but could be faking it as a way to hide millions of dollars. But really, the clip is clearly just an excuse to show Tom hardy in prosthetics, with his gravelly voice, chomping on a cigar. It’s a beautiful thing.

In addition to Hardy, the film stars Linda Cardellini, Kyle MacLachlan, and Matt Dillon. “Capone” is written and directed by Josh Trank, marking his first film since 2015’s “Fantastic Four.” The music for the film was composed by El-P, one half of the popular rap group, Run the Jewels.

If you need even more reason to see the film, how about an endorsement from Oscar-nominated filmmaker, Rian Johnson? In a recent tweet about the film, Johnson said, “This movie is batshit bonkers (in the best possible way) and believe me you’re going to want to see it.”

“Capone,” formerly known as “Fonzo,” will arrive on VOD on May 12. As for a possible theatrical run, Trank tweeted, “Planned as theatrical, but hopefully will be on the big screen later this year!”

Here’s the synopsis:

Once a ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist, Alfonse Capone was the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore. At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Alfonse’s mind and his past becomes present. Harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life. As he spends his final year surrounded by family with the FBI lying in wait, this ailing patriarch struggles to place the memory of the location of millions of dollars he hid away on his property.
