Got a Tip?

Caleb Landry Jones Joins Xavier Dolan’s ‘Tom A La Ferme’

nullIt seems Caleb Landry Jones has taken a shine to Canadian auteurs. The actor (known to most as Banshee from "X-Men: First Class") recently teamed with Brandon Cronenberg for his uneven, but still undeniably freaky and fun "Antiviral." And now he's joined up with a three-time Cannes attendee and rising young talent Xavier Dolan for his next effort.

As was first announced this spring, Dolan is directing an adaptation of Michel Marc Bouchard's play "Tom à la Ferme." The story follows Tom, who is in the grip of grief and depression following the death of his lover. When he meets the family of the deceased, it is revealed the mother was not aware of her son's sexual orientation, or his relationship with Tom either, for that matter. As Tom struggles over whether to keep the truth hidden or reveal all, he is threatened by the brother in the family with grave repercussions if the truth is not concealed forever.

Earlier this month it was revealed Eric Bruneau (who appeared in Dolan's "Heartbeats") is taking the role of Tom, with the director himself starring as his boyfriend. Lise Roy ("The Barabarian Invasion") and Evelyne Brochu ("Cafe de Flore") also feature, with Variety adding that Dolan rewrote an English-speaking part specifically for Jones, though it's not yet been shared what that role will be.

Production will get underway imminently in Montreal, and no release dates just yet. Dolan will have to race to get this one completed in time for another Cannes appearance (where his three previous efforts have played), but if not, surely Venice and Toronto will welcome him with open arms. And oh yeah, "Laurence Anyways" is gonna get picked up for U.S. distribution, right?

  1. Fantastic news. Great casting! Xavier Dolan, Eric Bruneau and Caleb Landry Jones all acting in the same film – what's not to love!!!! I enjoyed Laurence Anyways but missed seeing Xavier in the screen, so this is great news that he will be back infront of the camera. I hope the film is as great as Heartbeats was, although I understand the plot is quite different.
