One of the most legendary actors of all time, winner of dozens of awards, including a Golden Globe for his role in “Boogie Nights,” Burt Reynolds has sadly passed away today at the age of 82.
Not much is known yet about the cause of death, but various outlets are reporting that Reynolds died while under the care of Jupiter Medical in Florida, which is confirmed by his manager, Erik Kritzer.
Obviously, the name Burt Reynolds is synonymous with “cool,” as he starred as the hero in countless films and TV shows, including “Smokey and the Bandit,” “The Longest Yard,” and “Cannonball Run.” But many film fans probably recognize his work in “Deliverance” and, later in his career, “Boogie Nights” as the two roles that launched Reynolds’ career into legendary status.
There are numerous pop culture hallmarks that can be attributed to Reynolds that he accumulated over his career. From the famous mustache that probably influenced millions of men to grow ill-advised facial hair to the famous bearskin rug nude pictorial that spawned numerous imitators, including the recent “Deadpool,” the iconic actor left his indelible mark on the entertainment industry.
Reynolds never stopped acting, even into his later years. Most recently, the actor could be seen in films like “The Last Movie Star” and “Shadow Fighter.” Though his profile as a leading man and box office draw faded over the years, his presence on screen was always a welcome addition, even in downright bad comedies like “The Dukes of Hazzard,” “Without a Paddle,” and the Adam Sandler remake of “The Longest Yard.”

The actor was also poised for a major comeback of sorts, as he was recently signed to star in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino film, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” The film, which is currently in production, featured a who’s-who of acting royalty, and Reynolds was perhaps the biggest name of the bunch. Unfortunately, it seems as if he wasn’t able to film the role, as Twitter seems to confirm.
