“Hannibal” season three has finished airing. Since NBC didn’t renew the show, and the actors have been released from their contracts, the drama is, for all intents and purposes, dead. However, Bryan Fuller has spent every moment since news that season three would ostensibly be the last talking about the avenues through which the show might be saved, and right now, the plan looks to be bringing “Hannibal” to the big screen.
“[Producer] Martha De Laurentiis is looking into financing for a feature film,” he told HitFix. “The season 4 that we were going to tell is such a restart and reimagining that I still hope in some way that we get to tell a version of that, if not ‘Silence of the Lambs‘ itself, as a miniseries. I would love to return this cast to the big screen from whence they came, and Hannibal Lecter to the big screen, from whence he came. It seems perfectly symmetrical.”

Fuller concedes that the odds of any of this happening are “less than 50/50, and not in our favor,” he’s still got an idea in mind should by some miracle, “Hannibal” gets another day to live on. As mentioned, it involves playing with “The Silence Of Lambs” story and making it fit the narrative he has currently built for the characters on the show.
“I am imagining a parallel structure of Hannibal in the institution, with a severely scarred Chilton, now having returned to his post, and juxtaposing that, back in the heyday of Hannibal as a psychiatrist, perhaps even earlier than we met him the first time, when he had Benjamin Raspail as a patient, and weave that story in and around the modern day ‘Silence of the Lambs’ tale as we know it,” he told Crave Online, noting that if it all worked out, he would have Anna Chlumsky‘s Miriam Lass returning in some capacity.
As for Clarice Starling, he’s still got Ellen Page as his wishlist first choice, though he’d be up for trying the character played by someone from a different race. And Fuller even knows who his Buffalo Bill would be. “I would love to cast Lee Pace as Buffalo Bill. His first, most notable, award-winning career move was playing a transgendered person [in 2003’s ‘A Soldier’s Girl’], and I think it would be fascinating to return him to that side of his acting skill,” he said.

hasn\’t Fuller already moved on to American Gods? i found the finale quite fitting. Will finally turned to the dark side. plus the Bedelia epilogue was brilliant, if taken within the story\’s ambiguous context and not what Fuller said about it in an interview.

there will be ways, and you are known for finding ways, far away from everything people expected….be provocativ and brave, we will always support you, on whatever costs…with money, with not watching it illegal, with whatever…..say what you needed from us, im sure we provide it.
what a question….of course we all need a 4th season, a movie or whatever we can get….its nice and respectful to say, that the finale was fantastic ( what it was) but theres no way anybody could ever be satisfied with that, not when there are more ideas in that perfect fuller head, not when there are still stories to tell….
it was a grandios finale, but there will always be listeners when someone told a story like that…..so please, please please please, dont give up fighting for storys that move people…dont let people move (more likley the wrong people) what has to be told.
its your duty and your responsobility as our storyteller to do what your best in…..make us happy, surprise us, make us see what ever vision you had in your mind….stop playing with the american gods….you are already are one to a lot of people ( not only in america)
To SHOGUNOFHARLEM – Yes, though the finale scene with Bedelia (post credits) sets a different tone completely.
As a diehard fan of the show, I found the finale to be somewhat ham fisted and fan service-y, especially the final sequence at the house. Did they by chance film that whole last set piece after they found out they were cancelled? Felt like it…
Still the best looking thing on TV, by a mile.
