With a release date announced for the “Total Recall” reboot about a month ago, there has been little word on the project other than Colin Farrell starring in the thing with Len Wiseman directing. Well, with shooting gearing up start this spring, it looks like the cast is starting to get locked in.
Variety report that Bryan Cranston is in negotiations to play the villain in the upcoming film. Cranston has had an amazing post-“Malcolm In the Middle” run, bucking the sitcom world with his great turn on AMC‘s “Breaking Bad.” And coming up he’s got roles in Nicolas Winding Refn‘s “Drive,” Steven Soderbergh‘s “Contagion” and Andrew Stanton‘s “John Carter of Mars” among many others. Great stuff.
THR reveals Cranston will playing Vilos Cohaagen, the leader of Euromerica who is plotting to invade New Shanghai. Farrell has the lead role of Douglas Quaid, a factory worker who begins to think he’s a spy but he doesn’t know whether it’s for Euromerica or New Shanghai. We dig the casting so far but the main wild card here is Len Wiseman, who has yet to direct anything worth talking about. “Total Recall” reboots on August 3, 2012.
And oh yeah, just as an amusing side note. Colin Farrell will be starring this summer in the “Fright Night” remake and presenting the film at CinemaCon he accidentally dissed the picture. “Meself, as a fan of the original, it doesn’t change. I don’t think I’ll have a copy of this version in my library, but I have the original at home,” Farrell said. “And since [the old film] still exists, maybe this [new] film will bring that film to a whole new audience and maybe some fans of the original, like myself, can enjoy this one as well.”
EW caught up with him backstage were he was totally embarrassed clarifying that he left out a couple of key words in his little statement. “What I meant was [I wouldn’t own it] because I’m in the fucking thing!” Oh, Colin.
Len Wiseman is a leading light of The Hack Pack. The only thing that made the original interesting was Paul Verhoeven.
I hope former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger will have a cameo and share a scene with Colin Farrell, perhaps telling him to have fun.
Kate Beckinsale will probably play Lori Quaid or Melina as her husband is the director.
I’ve always wanted to see Christian Bale and Colin Farrell do another movie together after having no scenes together in The New World (2005). They are both incredible actors and it would be amazing to see them bounce off each other in a film.
You tink dis is da real Quaid? It is. Ratatatatatata!
Cum on Cohagen, you god whud you wunt, give doze peepul ayah!
I\’m going to assume he\’s playing the Michael Ironside part
