A remake or sequel to Sam Raimi‘s cult favorite “The Evil Dead” has been knocking around for years now, moving in fits and starts but never really getting anywhere. And while we’re probably not much closer to it, fans can’t help but ask about the film anytime Bruce Campbell or Raimi hit the press circuit. Back in January, the Guardian reported that Raimi’s longtime producing partner Rob Tapert said, “we’re looking at a script this month. What’s interesting about ‘Evil Dead’ is very few people saw it in the format we made it for, which is for the [movie] theater. I think Sam wants to embrace the ultimate experience in grueling terror.”
Well, it turns out not only is that script finished, but Bruce Campbell has read it, and while he won’t be reprising the role of Ash, he’s already eyeing a part. In an interview with Reddit to promote the “Burn Notice” spinoff movie “The Fall Of Sam Axe,” Campbell took on fan questions and inevitable, the topic of “Evil Dead” came up.
“NEWSFLASH: We are remaking ‘Evil Dead.’ The script is awesome. I will be one of the producers and possibly play the milk man,” Campbell announced to fans.
However with his work on “Burn Notice” and with Sam Raimi tied up with “Oz The Great And Powerful” for the foreseeable future, Campbell admits it’s likely a bit of a way off saying, “In all honesty, we would all love to make another ‘Evil Dead’ movie. When that will happen? Who can say – we’re all working on other jobs right now. We’re not trying to dodge anybody’s questions, there just isn’t that much to talk about. The remake’s gonna kick ass — you have my word.”
And that’s about all there is to it for now. A big reason why the “Evil Dead” films were so much fun in the first place was their low-budget, anything-goes approach. Made for the movie theater? Maybe. But there was also something special about watching it on beat up VHS that made it a blast as well. A glossier version? We’re not too interested and really, it’ll take one hell of an actor to deliver quips like Campbell (and if someone says Nathan Fillion, we’ll fucking scream). So, yeah, we’re in no rush to see this made at all.
Anyway, if you need some big chinned sarcasm, “The Fall Of Sam Axe” premieres on the USA network this Sunday.
the way i see it? Bruce campbell's blessing is one thing, and thats good enough for me! but he's directing with possibly a cameo?! hell yeah!! bring it on!!!! look everyone, if Mr Campbell says it'll kick ass it will. Have a bit of faith in the man B-) hail to the king!
I think they should definitely remake Evil Dead. They other one is very damn old and should be brought back from the dead.
This is the worst thing I can possibly ever imagine.
What with Halloween, Dawn of the Dead and a handful of others it seems everyone is ganging up to rape my past. I\’d rather be raped by a tree!
I wrote a blog about it – http://aftermoviediner.blogspot.com/
there hasn\’t been a more terrifying demon possession movie since…
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.
This is such a bad idea.
The original was so good, there is absolutely NO reason to mess with it. Plus, you cannot have Evil Dead without Ash and Bruce Campbell is the ONE AND ONLY Ash.
NO NO NO NO NO
Next they will tell us it is in 3-D.
Refusing to go anywhere near this \”film\”.
Greatest movie ever made? perhaps.
Awesome! From what I have heard, the script to the remake is fantastic! Word is it will go into production really soon.
They already remade EVIL DEAD – it\’s the first 10-15 minutes of EVIL DEAD II.
So much for my dreams of an S-Mart movie

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, I HATE REMAKES!!
If they were doing something that is a prequell with Professor Knowby and Henrietta.
I loved the Evil Dead. I was born almost 18 years after the movie was made. Discovered it in my local movie store, awesome movie!
