Got a Tip?

Broken Social Scene Seranade A Joy Division Song In ‘Time Traveler’s Wife’; New Cut Looks Good, Film Coming… When?

Speaking of Canadian indie-rock bands appearing in films, here’s another we just mentioned.

Last year it was reported — based on one line in a press release — that indie-rock collective Broken Social Scene had participated in the film, “The Time Traveler’s Wife” directed by Robert Schwentke (“Flightplan“) and starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, but there were zero details on their involvement.

But a friend of ours just saw an early-bird test screening of the film and told us four members of the expanding and ever-evolving line-up, including Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning and Justin Peroff are featured in a wedding scene playing undisclosed BSS track which eventually morphs into a quick snippet medley of Joy Division’s classic, “Love Will Tear Us Apart.” Will they be included on the soundtrack or write additional music?

Mychael Danna, who’s also written the music to Terry Gilliam’s ” The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,” has already written the score, but the film might have bigger fish to fry than music right now.

“The Time Traveler’s Wife” shot in Toronto back in September 2007, and the post-production seems to have been problematic. Early test screening were poorly received (a convoluted plotline allegedly) and this is part of the reason it’s been delayed so long, but our friend who saw the new cut loved it and gave it solid plaudits

The film is listed on IMDB as having a February 2010 release date, but our person tells us based on the tone and look alone, a fall release would be perfect. New Line, you listening? We included the film in our Most Anticipated of 2009 list and the story is based on Audrey Niffenegger’s 2003 novel about a librarian (Bana) with a gene that causes him to involuntarily time travel when stressed causes complication for his marriage (to McAdams). We’re big fans of both actors so we’d love to see this film sooner rather than later. PS, anyone have the script?
