Got a Tip?

Brit Actor Jack O’Connell Joins ‘300: Battle Of Artemisia’

nullOh, so this is still happening then. "300: Battle of Artemisia" seems to have been brewing for a while now, but without the trigger really being pulled. The last we heard on this movie was back in March, but with a release date looming for late next summer, we suppose Warner Bros. are finally starting to get this thing rolling in earnest.

The latest update on the flick comes courtesy of Baz Bamigboye who reports that up-and-coming Brit actor Jack O'Connell has joined the film. While he's not a household name just yet, he first came to prominence, like Nicholas Hoult, Dev Patel and Kaya Scodelario, on the TV series "Skins," and has since given strong performances in the likes of "Harry Brown" and TV drama "Dive," and earlier this year bagged a role in "Beautiful Creatures." Here, he'll join the curiously, mostly no-name cast that includes Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Rodrigo Santoro and Callan Mulvey. But this is a franchise mostly sold on bronzed bods, yelling and slo-mo action, not names, so lack of star power hero isn't necessarily a bad thing. He'll be playing the part of Calisto — which Screenterrier notes, will find taking over for the previously cast Jamie Blackley — in the movie and is currently doing some sword training for the role.

Noam Murro ("Smart People") is at the helm of this one which is slated to shoot in Bulgaria and will land on August 2, 2013.

  1. Actually this story broke a few months ago thanks to Screenterrier.

He's replacing Jamie Blackley, as he was signed on to another film but there was a Visa problem and he couldn't do it. He was 1st choice for the Calisto role but Blackley was cast instead when he couldn't do it, but then when he becae available they swapped them.
