Got a Tip?

Brian De Palma To Direct Remake Of Alain Corneau’s ‘Love Crime’

It’s been quite a while since we’ve had a film from Brian De Palma. His last effort was the poorly received Iraq war drama “Redacted” and while last year it seemed like things were in motion for him to film his long-gestating psychological thriller “Toyer” in the fall, it looks like the project never quite got off the ground. But it seems he’s got another film on the horizon.

Variety reports that Brian De Palma is set to direct “Passion,” a remake of Alain Corneau‘s “Love Crime.” The film, which came out last year starring Kristen Scott Thomas and Ludivine Sagnier, is a potboiler about an older executive and her younger protégé who soon clash amidst some tawdry sexual and office politics which end up leading to murder. While this writer walked out of Corneau’s film at TIFF finding it over-the-top ridiculous, the material is very much in De Palma’s wheelhouse and we could see him turning something out that’s much more interesting and sizzling than the original.

The plan right now is for the film to secure European financing and if all goes well, the cast will be announced at the Cannes Film Festival with shooting to take place in August in Cologne or Berlin, with exteriors shot in London (where the film will be set). No word yet on who’s penning the script, but we’d imagine that De Palma will be involved on that end as well.

  1. I\’ll believe it when the cameras start rolling as so many upcoming projects have been mentioned with De Palma but falling through at the last moment. His last successfully complete film was CARLITO\’S WAY. Post-Carlito his other films have great visual compostions but ordinary and incomplete scripts that fall well below the ladder.
