Got a Tip?

Bradley Cooper To Star In & Possibly Direct Remake Of Til Schweiger’s German Language Smash Hit ‘Kokowääh’

nullWhile he didn't walk away with an Oscar on Sunday night, Bradley Cooper isn't lacking in forward momentum. Next month he starts shooting his next collaboration with David O. Russell, the untitled Abscam movie (which could be in the Best Picture race next year), and by the end of May he'll have two more movies in theaters: Derek Cianfrance's searing "The Place Beyond The Pines" and trilogy capper "The Hangover Part III." And he's been lining up project after project (which we'll get to in a moment) with one more tossed on the pile.

Warner Bros. and Cooper are teaming up to produce a remake of Til Schweiger's German language smash hit (which he co-wrote, starrted in and directed), "Kokowääh." The film, which is being developed as a starring vehicle for Cooper, as well as something he might direct, tells the story of bachelor Henry and the married Trevor, whose lives are changed when the latter learns he's the father of an 8 year-old girl. Black List-approved Scott Rothman and Rajiv Joseph (who leapt to the top of the 2012 rankings with "Draft Day") are re-writing the original draft by Chris Shafer and Paul Vicknair (who penned the upcoming ensemble comedy "A Many Splintered Thing" with Chris Evans, Luke Wilson, Michelle Monaghan, Aubrey Plaza and more).

The movie is already something of a proven success, having been the top box office sensation in Germany in 2011, so we suppose it was only a matter of time before Hollywood came calling, and Cooper seems like a good choice to take it on. But where it will come up in his dance card remains to be seen. He's been busy attaching himself to variety of projects, including: the mystery "The Man From Primrose Lane"; period spy thriller "Dark Invasion"; that Cameron Crowe movie with Emma Stone; the crime thriller "Bad Blood And Trouble" and Navy SEAL flick "American Sniper." So yeah, dude has options.

But a crowdpleasing story about a man taking his paternal responsibilities? Yeah, that sounds like one that will get financing much more easily than many of the above. Check out the trailer for the original "Kokowääh" (whose title we presume will change) with English subtitles below. [Deadline]

  1. In all honesty, Kokowääh is one of the worst movies I have ever watched. And this is no exaggeration here.

Or no, Til Schweiger's earlier two were even worse! These Rabbit Without Ears whatever they were called in English. Just endless torture.

  2. This movie is really funny. Paternity fraud hasn't been a big theme in Hollywood until now like spermdonation never. Is Arnold Schwarzenegger one reason, that Hollywood get interested in the milkman's child? We have some stories about paternity fraud in the blog "The Milkman's Child"
