Lord have mercy. We are barely two weeks into 2013, and now we have to mark our calendars for the onslaught of blockbusters in 2014. So sit back, get out your day planner and schedule your vacations accordingly.
Probably the biggest and most mysterious of these announcements, Brad Bird's "1952" starring George Clooney and written by Damon Lindelof has nabbed a holiday ready, December 19, 2014 date. The movie is said to be "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind"-esque, but that's about it thus far. So'll just have to wait until Bird and Lindelof share what they're cooking up.
Meanwhile, even though lensing is set to begin imminently, "The Muppets" sequel with Ty Burrell, Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey is going for a spring date with a March 21, 2014 bow. And originally scheduled to open just a week before, Angelina Jolie's "Maleficent" will now drop on July 2, 2014 for all your USA Day needs.
While some of us might have hoped that Wes Anderson would be going back-to-back, it looks like we'll have to sit tight for "The Grand Budapest Hotel." Even though "Moonrise Kingdom" earned itself an Oscar nomination and the second best box office of his career behind "The Royal Tenenbaums," you'll have to wait patiently as the movie is planning a 2014 date, that is yet to be scheduled. Perhaps another Cannes appearance for Wes and his starry cast?
Lastly, with the inevitable "Pirates Of The Caribbean 5" gaining "Catch Me If You Can" writer Jeff Nathanson over the weekend, Disney has gone ahead and slated the Johnny Depp moneymaker for July 10, 2015. Ahoy. And P.S.: In case you care, "The Little Mermaid" is going 3D on September 13th this fall.
