The Soundtrack to the Julie Taymor directed Beatles sing along, “Across The Universe,” is due via Interscope on September 18. 33 Beatles songs are used in the film as the backdrop to the ’60s counter-culture political tulmult, including “All My Loving,” “Let It Be,” “Something,” “Oh Darling,” “Helter Skelter,” “Strawberry Fields,” “Happiness Is A Warm Gun” and “Hey Jude.”
U2’s Bono plays the character Dr. Robert in the film and sings “I Am the Walrus” and “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.” Joe Cocker sings “Come Together” in three different guises–pimp, homeless man and hippie, and Eddie Izzard portrays circus ringleader Mr. Kite rendering “The Benefit Of Mr. Kite.” The soundtrack disc will contain 16 tracks. Cate Blanchett is talking “I’m Not There” again and perhaps giving hard-core fans a warning. Discussing the film with Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper, Blanchett said, “It’s a very fractured rendition of a persona. Prepare yourself, it’s tricky.” Meanwhile, the tracklist for Dylan, the career-spanning 3-disc, cloth-covered box/yet another excuse to buy a Bob Dylan boxset has been finalized. It features 51 tracks of Dylan songs you already own and is due October 2. Gee, like two weeks before the movie, how convenient!
The “Feast of Love” soundtrack features tracks by The Frames, M. Ward, Jeff Buckley and the Cary Brothers. The disc due September 4 also features Z-Trip Vs. Run Run Run tackling a cover of Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You.”
Due September 4, “The Brothers Solomon” soundtrack features a score by John Swihart (“Napolean Dynamite”) plus songs by the Flaming Lips, the Magic Numbers and Ann Wilson. ‘Solomon’ was directed by ex-“Mr.Show” actor/writer, Bob Odenkirk.
You’ve probably read the director John Singleton (“Boyz N’ Da Hood”) killed a pedestrian in a car accident. Singleton was dead sober. [Cinematical]
You’ve probably read that Eddie Vedder has composed two new songs for the Phil Donahue Iraq documentary (no, really, that Phil Donahue), “Body of War” about a paralyzed U.S. soldier (an awkward conversation btwn Vedder and the solider can be seen here).Vedder will be performing live at the film’s Toronto Film Festival debut on September 11. The new track, “No More” has been performed at recent Pearl Jam shows. [Paste]
Melissa Auf Der Maur’s (Hole, Smashing Pumpkins) new album, Out Of Our Minds, will be accompanied by a short-film and comic. The album, and film are all apparently, “Viking-themed.” Directed by Tony Stone “(Severed Ways: The Norse Discovery of America”) the 30-minute time-travel fantasy film includes no dialogue and has a totally separate instrumental trance-y rock music soundtrack. “You don’t have to be a Tupac fan to feel that justice needs to be done here.” – RJ Bond’s documentary “Tupac: Assassination” is due on DVD on Oct 23. [Rolling Stone]
And it’s not soundtrack related, but since he did co-write some of our favorite Wes Anderson films, it looks like the “Butterscotch Stallion” Owen Wilson did try and comitt suicide. Poor Owen. [Extra]
