Got a Tip?

Bong Joon-ho’s Next Film ‘Parasite’ Will Be Released In 2019

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about “Okja” filmmaker Bong Joon-ho’s upcoming film “Parasite.” A little more than a year ago, we knew that the South Korean director would tackle the project next, but all we basically had was a title. Now, thanks to Variety, we have a bit more information on what we can expect.

According to Bong, himself, the title “Parasite” is a bit of a misnomer, as the film will feature zero actual parasites or alien creatures. Instead, the film will follow a family of four, where each family member has “unique characteristics.” The film will star one of Korea’s biggest actors of the moment, Song Kang-ho, who previously had roles in Bong Joon-ho films like “The Host” and “Snowpiercer.” “Parasite” will also feature actors Park So-dam, Lee Sun-kyun, Jo Yeo-jeong, and “Okja” actor Choi Wooshik.

Variety also reports that filming started on Sunday, and the production is using the Goyang Aqua Studio, which has been previously used by films that require underwater shooting. As of now, there’s no worldwide release set for the film. “Parasite” has secured distribution in Korea from CJ Entertainment, and international sales will happen sometime in the future.

For those unaware of Bong Joon-ho’s films, the director is one of South Korea’s biggest names. He’s perhaps best known for the aforementioned films “The Host,” “Snowpiercer,” and “Okja.” However, he’s also received critical acclaim for his 2009 film “Mother,” which is also his most recent non-English language film. However, with “Parasite,” the director is going back to his Korean language roots.

There’s no release date set, but the film is anticipated to release sometime in 2019.
