Got a Tip?

Bondurant Boys Reunite: Jason Clarke Joins Tom Hardy In ‘Child 44’

Tom HardyThough he’s likely now mostly recognized for playing opposite Jessica Chastain in two different Annapurna productions—“Lawless” and “Zero Dark ThirtyJason Clarke had a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it role in Michael Mann’s maligned digital period-piece “Public Enemies.” Now, as reported by THR, Clarke is in talks to don period garb once again with one of his “Lawless” co-stars.

Safe House” helmer Daniel Espinosa’s follow-up “Child 44” already has quite the lineup of actors: Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman, Joel Kinnaman, Paddy Considine and Philip Seymour Hoffman. The film, based on the Tom Rob Smith novel, follows Hardy as a disgraced MGB agent in the 1950s Soviet Union investigating a prolific child murderer who may have connections going to the very top of the party leadership.

If talks are successful, Clarke—who has already appeared in two films this year so far (“White House Down” and “The Great Gatsby”)—would reunite with his “Lawless” co-stars Hardy and Oldman. The Bondurant boys back together again (Clarke never shared a scene with Oldman)! This time however, Hardy and Clarke’s characters would be at odds, with Clarke’s character said to be a man “accused by Hardy of being a traitor.”

The Richard Price-scripted adaptation is currently filming with release date eyed for next year. We can’t wait.

  1. Don't see how anybody could have blinked and missed Clarke in Public Enemies – he was the most sympathetic and well-developed of Dillinger's accomplices, has more screen time than anybody excepting the three leads, and two big scenes with Depp including a brilliantly acted death scene.
