The only animated show I watch right now is “Archer” and the occasional full season rewatches of the classic years of “The Simpsons.” That’s not a slight on the plentiful array of animated fare available right now — from “BoJack Horseman” to “Rick & Morty” and beyond — it’s just I only have so much time and willingness to invest in new material. So, even though it has just kicked off its eighth season, I still have yet to see a single episode of “Bob’s Burgers.” But fans of the show have some massive news to celebrate today.
20th Century Fox has ordered up a “Bob’s Burgers” movie, carving out a release date for July 17, 2020 — yep, that’s primetime summer real estate. So, huzzah!
“We’re thrilled to be invited to bring ‘Bob’s Burgers’ to the big screen,” show creator Loren Bouchard said in a statement. “We know the movie has to scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show. We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever so slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s – but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?!”
So, cool news and all, but let’s remember that these kinds of things don’t always work out. I would direct the jury’s attention to 2007’s “The Simpsons Movie,” so let’s hope the folks behind “Bob’s Burgers” don’t mess too much with their Emmy award winning thing. [Deadline]
