Here’s a piece of advice for Abdellatif Kechiche: let it go. While he was certainly right to defend himself after accusations first surfaced from his “Blue Is The Warmest Color” stars Lea Seydoux and (to a much lesser degree) Adele Exarchopoulos, in the weeks since, it seems to be mostly his voice we’ve been hearing. From declaring the movie shouldn’t be released to changing his mind and entertaining the notions of a sequel, Kechiche hasn’t seen a press opportunity he couldn’t seize upon. He’s now unloaded his biggest statement yet.
In a long, sometimes rambling, kind of paranoid open letter to Rue89 (translated by THR), he has taken considerable space—when not griping about the French film industry and vast press conspiracy to take him down (really)—to dig into Seydoux. Calling her an “arrogant, spoiled child,” he continues to be hurt and vexed by the actress’s about face from her seeming happiness at Cannes following the Palme d’Or win for the film, and her later, much more bitter comments about the process.
“Miss Seydoux, who after having repeatedly thanking me publicly and privately and having wept in my arms at Cannes for allowing her to take on this noble role … has, against all odds and all personal coherence, radically changed her attitude towards me,” the director wrote. “Thus after having been celebrated and glorified thanks to the Palme d’Or won by ‘Blue is the Warmest Color,’ she started to drag me through the mud with lies and exaggerations.”
Adding that her words are “slanderous,” Seydoux might be well advised to lawyer up as Kechiche warns, “I will come back. It is for her to explain in court.”
All this to say, as much as Kechiche tries to clear the air that he’s a regular dude who’s been thrown under the bus as he continues to swing out, the more the stories of him being an unpredictable bully on set seem to make sense.
This is like the roided-out version of Fiona Apple vs. Mark Romanek after the 'Criminal' video came out. It sounds like the controversy and press descending upon Lea is doing a lot to bring this out.
Geese Louise. *infinitely facepalms*
It's her opinion, if anything the director just won't let things go, I read somewhere that he would take things to court, like wtf. Way too sensitive maybe he should promote the heck out of the movie he made, and ignore or be neutral about the questions the press ask. Who's the arrogant spoiled child? Not The actress, that's for sure.
Read my letter to the Cast and Director of Blue is the Warmest Color, but you'll have to go to my site
NO ONE CARES.
With the posting of animated gifs recently on this site of the actress's orgasms in the film, it begs the question: ARE they trying to discredit him and his movie? I found that to be totally tacky and discrespectful and found myself holding it against the film and the director, which really probably had nothing to do with that. I now shall withhold my opinion of the film until actually seeing it.
Jeez the movie's done already just go past it and move no.
I don't know, comments on this website have interpreted her words to suggest Kechiche is some kind of exploitative director getting his rocks off, that's a tough stain to get rid of, not surprised he's pissed. And she is spoiled…An actress is directed into her best role ever, there's consequent acclaim, magazine covers, all off the back of Kechiche and what does she do….
It got you talking about his film AGAIN. Sounds like he's using the system correctly. Free advertisement for his film.
Can't they all just meet up, talk about it, and call it a day? So much press and it only revolves around the sex scenes and the director's method.
