‘Blue Beetle’: Harvey Guillén Joining The Cast Of Upcoming DC Superhero Film

With “The Batman” doing huge business at the box office and receiving incredibly positive reviews, along with the successful launch of “Peacemaker” on HBO Max, there’s renewed interest in the world of DC films and TV shows. That means that all eyes are on what’s to come, including the film “Blue Beetle.” And while that film prepares for production, we’re learning more about who will be joining the cast.

According to Deadline, actor Harvey Guillén is in talks to join the upcoming film, “Blue Beetle.” The feature, directed by Angel Manuel Soto, follows the story of Jamie Reyes (played by Xolo Maridueña) who comes across a mystical item that gives him access to a powerful suit of armor and turns him into Blue Beetle. The report doesn’t mention what role Guillén will play, but it’s said that the actor will have a major role in the film.

Guillén is probably best known for his work as Guillermo in the FX comedy series, “What We Do in the Shadows.” He’s one of the breakout stars of that series. However, he’s been in a number of films and TV shows over the years, including recent projects like “Reacher” and last year’s “Werewolves Within.”

“Blue Beetle” was originally announced as an HBO Max exclusive release, but it was recently revealed the film will actually get a theatrical release on August 18, 2023. That would indicate that Warner Bros. is excited by the project and thinks it could be a breakout success. 

With a release date set for next summer, it’s expected that “Blue Beetle” will begin filming soon.
