Got a Tip?

Blake Lively To Star In ‘The Rhythm Section’ Helmed By ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Director Reed Morano

It’s been pretty incredible to watch the career of Reed Morano. The longtime cinematographer turned to directing in 2015, and her feature debut “Meadowland” turned more than a few heads. Two years later, she would be one of the driving forces behind one of television’s biggest sensations, Hulu‘s “The Handmaid’s Tale.” It confirmed Morano as a multi-talented filmmaker, and even more, it has earned the attention of some considerable industry heavyweights: James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.

The pair are behind “The Rhythm Section,” which Morano will direct, with Blake Lively in the lead role. Based on the book by Mark Burnell (the first in a series, natch), the thriller follows Stephanie Patrick, who is on a path of self-destruction after the death of her family in an airplane crash, a flight that she was meant to be on. After discovering that the crash was not an accident, her anger awakens a new sense of purpose and she rises to uncover the truth by adapting the identity of an assassin to track down those responsible. The new, and lethal, Stephanie Patrick is on a mission to fill the void between what she knows and what she is told.

Interestingly, production on “The Rhythm Section” begins this fall, which likely means Morano will not be directing any episodes of “The Handmaid’s Tale” season 2 which is going in front of cameras around the same time. But hopefully, Morano will still manage to have a creative hand in some capacity in the hit series.
