Got a Tip?

‘Blade Runner’ Sequel Continues To Develop With ‘Green Lantern’ Writer Brought On Board; Prequels Also In The Works

Blade Runner, Green Lantern writerSo yes, there is a “Blade Runner” sequel happening, if somehow you missed the news. Last year, circa “Prometheus,” Ridley Scott spent a considerable amount of time talking up the movie, with news that original writer Hampton Fancher was working with the director on the story. But since then, much has been quiet about the project set up over at Alcon. Other than the news that Harrison Ford might return in a small role, some links between “Blade Runner” and “Prometheus” being discovered and Sean Young (of all people) saying she’s already met with Scott about the movie. All this to say, things are moving forward.

Screenwriter Michael Green (“Green Lantern,” “Robopocalypse“) has been tapped to write the screenplay for the movie, with The Wrap noting that the followup will be “set some years after the conclusion of the influential first film” and that Scott is “courting Harrison Ford to reprise his role as Rick Deckard.” It seems that between “Star Wars” and “Blade Runner,” Ford can’t escape his past. And that’s about all the details there are at the moment. But yes, “Blade Runner 2” is definitely real. And that’s not all.

According to the official press release, Alcon is also working on and producing “Blade Runner” “theatrical sequels and prequels, in addition to all television and interactive productions.” So “Blade Runner 2” may just be the tip of the sci-fi iceberg…

No word on when this might actually shoot, and it really depends on the script and if Scott will like it or need to get worked on again. But here’s hoping they tell a full story this time, and not a three-quarters one like “Prometheus.”

on top of that: why the hell does hollywood think that a blade runner sequel would be a "big movie"? blade runner was a box office bomb and it's not comparable to what disney did with tron. everyone is ripping the movie off since its inception. how could a sequel not look almost anachronistic?

  2. Last I heard about Robopocalypse was, that the script needs more work. And Green Lantern was a mess from start to finish. Yeah, I would also hire that guy responsible for both scripts to write my screenplay.

  3. Oh gawd, please make them stop. Please. What on earth are they thinking? Why would they want to ruin something they've already ruined by releasing too many versions of the original? It's so sad how they just want to keep milking it. Didn't Ridley learn that he can't direct any more, after Prometheus? He's admitting to the world he's run out of ideas and finally lost it. Somebody stop him before he also jumps off the bridge like his brother.

  4. With Scott's 50 other films in development, he may never get around to making it. On the other hand, there's time for Damon Lindelof to come in and make his Prometheus fans happy.

  5. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe…….sequels already on fire off the shoulder of Hollywood and Vine. I saw dollar signs, glittering in the eyes of Hollywood directors. Now, all those…..flashes of common sense that some movies should be left as they may…..will be lost, like, tears, in rain."

  6. Why get michael green? Is the writer of Superman returns not available? What about spiderman 3? there are tons of crappy writers out there why stop at one of the worst? Am I the only one who thinks a sequel to Blade Runner is a very bad idea? Why do you want to tarnish the image of a great film? (Remember Highlander 2?- ugggh)
