‘Black Water: Abyss’ Trailer Brings on the Killer Crocs

There’s something in the water. 2007’s “Black Water” follows a woman, her boyfriend, and her sister on a swamp boat tour as they are terrorized by a deadly crocodile. More than a decade later, the story continues on with the same trend in the upcoming sequel “Black Water: Abyss.”

In the new trailer, a group of friends decide to explore an underground cavern. As a tropical storm causes the cave’s water to rise, it brings about a ferocious group of crocodiles. The group is trapped with only one way out — swimming toward freedom. That means swimming past the crocodiles that would love nothing more than taking a bite out of them.

“Black Water” became something of a success among indie horror circles. Should “Black Water: Abyss” follow in its predecessor’s tracks, the “Black Water” series could hypothetically continue on for the foreseeable future. Simply working with the idea of killer crocs has the potential to provide plenty of stories for future movies. Moving the movies out of their Australian setting would blow the door even further open.

Here’s the official synopsis for “Black Water: Abyss”:

In Black Water: Abyss, a group of friends explore a remote cave system deep in the forests of Northern Australia when a tropical storm hits. As rising flood waters trap them deep below the surface, something even deadlier emerges from the darkness – killer crocodiles.

“Black Water: Abyss” stars Jessica McNamee (“The Meg”), Luke Mitchell (“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”), Amali Golden (“Bloom”), Benjamin Hoetjes (“The Code”)and Anthony J. Sharpe (“Robert the Bruce”). Director Andrew Traucki returns to the helm for the sequel to “Black Water.”

“Black Water: Abyss” drops in theaters and on-demand on August 7. Take a look at the new trailer below and don’t splash or move a muscle.
