Got a Tip?

‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ Trailer: Surprise, The New Movie Arrives Tomorrow (Dec 28)

It’s the holiday break, and much like last year, Netflix has decided to deliver a secret, last-minute post-Xmas treat in new episodes of their mind-bending sci-fi/dystopian anthology show “Black Mirror.” But it’s not new traditional episodes. It’s a “Choose-Your-Own-Adventure” episode/film ‘Bandersnatch’ that fans ferreted and sniffed out on Netflix using their “Black Mirror”-esque conspiracy theories and clue-finding (though they had a teasing incentive).

Netflix hadn’t confirmed a thing, but clever fans worked their magic, and now things are confirmed today with the first trailer for the movie that’s apparently 5 hours/5 segments long. However, that’s reportedly untrue: 5 hours of footage shot and the movie itself is only 90 minutes “Black Mirror” pulled a similar, ta-daa reveal with season four at the last minute around last Christmas as well.

Directed by David Slade (“30 Days of Night,” “Hard Candy” and many excellent episodes of NBC’s “Hannibal” and “American Gods”), “Bandersnatch” is set in 1984 and centers on a young programmer makes a fantasy novel into a game. As literate readers have pointed out, A Bandersnatch is a fictional creature in Lewis Carroll’s 1872 novel “Through the Looking-Glass” and his 1874 poem “The Hunting of the Snark.” “Bandersnatch” stars Asim Chaudhry, Will Poulter and Fionn Whitehead from Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk.”

Earlier this year, word leaked that the producers of “Black Mirror” were working with Netflix on its latest “Chose Your Adventure” technology that would allow viewers of the series to choose multiple outcomes for its episode. How’s it going to work? Will it work? Well, we’ll find out soon enough.

“Black Mirror: Bandersnatch” hits Netflix tomorrow on December 28. Surprise!
