Got a Tip?

B.J Novack Raves About His ‘Inglourious Basterds’ Experience

B.J. Novack is not hiding his enthusiasm for Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds.”

“It’s one of the coolest movies I’ve ever seen or been a part of,” he gushed to MTV. Novack plays Private First Class Utivich or “The Little One,” as dubbed by the Germans in Tarantino’s outrageous WWII epic which exists in an alternate WWII universe (or at least its outcome sure does!).

It seems like principal photography on the film, which is racing to finish in time for Cannes ’09, is almost done and Novack says he’s almost done shooting and was flown back this two weeks ago to shoot one more scene.

“It’s a very cool, very stylish, intense, funny movie that takes place during World War II behind enemy lines in France,” Novak told MTV. “Brad Pitt leads a squadron of American soldiers. And that’s the most normal part of the movie. It gets crazier from there. But for some reason, you’re always completely invested. You’re always completely by it. As soon as you see this reality, you feel it. You believe it. You’re invested in it. It’s just one of the coolest scripts I’ve ever read.”

It’s true, as much as we can bitch and moan about Tarantino’s affinity for trash and genre films and affected “movieness,” ‘Basterds’ was probably the finest and well-crafted script we read all last year (and one of the best scripts we’ve read in years, period).

We’ve hoped from day one that Tarantino would step away from the heightened, unbelievable tones of “Kill Bill” for this one and Novack hints that this could be the direction (kinda-sorta).

“It all felt normal to me as I was doing it. But then when I described it to my friends when I got back home, their eyes just popped out of their heads. So I can’t wait to see how people react to this movie. I really have no sense of it. Once you get into it, you love it. So I think that’s how people will react to it. It is really excitingly different from what people are used to.”

Maybe that’s just wishful thinking on our part.
