**Spoilers ahead** Last year’s terrific miniseries “The Night Of” wasn’t just a compelling whodunit that crisscrossed race and class in New York City, it was a fascinating exploration of justice, and what the word actually means. At the center of it all was Riz Ahmed‘s terrific performance as Nasir “Naz” Khan, who winds up arrested and charged with murder, a crime he didn’t commit… or maybe he did. His own memories of the night in question are hazy, and there are theories that are plausible enough to explain how he woke up with a dead young woman beside him. Ahmed himself has been cagey about taking a firm side on the he did/he didn’t debate, however Bill Camp has a more definitive take.

Speaking with Deadline, the actor, who turns in a great performance as Detective Dennis Box, revealed that he believes in Naz’s innocence.
“I don’t think he did it. There’s something in Episode 1 that makes it clear for me, when he’s in the apartment before he splits. I don’t think he did it, and that’s all I’ll say. I agree that it’s irrelevant because the power of the series is its ambiguity, I think. But I don’t think he did it,” he said.
Indeed, as the series progresses, Box begins to believe in another more viable suspect, Ray Halle, played by Paulo Costanzo.
“Dennis Box realized that there was a relationship going on between some other guy and the victim, so that then means, well, when there’s a relationship, we have emotional stuff that’s going on, and who knows? Was it sexual? Did it then move into something else? That led him through a whole different door,” Camp said.

I remember reading it as not being ambiguous at all. It seemed pretty definitive to me that the guy that was actually in a relationship with the girl did it, but that Box just wouldn’t be able to prove it.
I think he will DO IT. That is the “beauty” go the show. The system broken him so badly that NOW, at the moment we leave the character in the final episode, he is a criminal.
