‘The Biggest Little Farm’ Trailer: TIFF Doc Shows What Happens When A Couple Ditches The City For Life On A Farm

If you’re someone that’s spent a large amount of time living in a major city, you’ve probably had a similar fantasy to the couple at the heart of the new documentary “The Biggest Little Farm.” Wouldn’t it be great to just move away to the country and raise animals on a lush farm? Well, as we see in the new trailer for the film, it’s not that simple.

The first trailer for “The Biggest Little Farm” shows the aforementioned couple, John and Molly Chester, as they document the creation and maintenance that goes into opening and running a real farm. From pests and dangerous animals to sickness and wildfires, the documentary shows, warts and all, the true life of independent, small farmers.

The film comes from director John Chester and premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. In our review, we called the film “constantly beautiful, [Chester’s] previous work as a cinematographer shining through as he displays wonderful montages of their stunning farm.”

“The Biggest Little Farm” hits theaters on April 5.

Here’s the synopsis:

The Biggest Little Farm follows two dreamers and their beloved dog when they make a choice that takes them out of their tiny L.A. apartment and into the countryside to build one of the most diverse farms of its kind in complete coexistence with nature. The film chronicles their near decade-long attempt to create the utopia they seek, planting 10,000 orchard trees, hundreds of crops, and bringing in animals of every kind– including an unforgettable pig named Emma and her best friend, Greasy the rooster. When the farm’s ecosystem finally begins to reawaken, their plan to create perfect harmony takes a series of wild turns, and to survive they realize they’ll have to reach a far greater understanding of the intricacies and wisdom of nature, and of life itself.
