With our current political reality nothing short of a nightmare, alternate history might be a place worth escaping to, even if it’s no less harrowing. Fans have been watching Amazon to discover what a Nazi-ruled America might look like in “The Man In The High Castle,” and if you dig that premise, then “SS-GB” might be something worth keeping on your radar.
With the first two episodes set to debut at the Berlin Film Festival, a new trailer has arrived providing a peek at the miniseries that’s based on the book by spy master Len Deighton. Starring Sam Riley and Kate Bosworth, and penned by Bond veterans Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (“Casino Royale,” “Spectre,” “Skyfall”), the story is set in Nazi occupied Britain where a detective gets caught between Scotland Yard, the SS and the resistance movement while investigating a murder. If this all sounds far-fetched, there is a chilling notion that had things gone differently in WWII, Britain could’ve faced a very different future.

“There is no doubt the Germans spent a great deal of time planning how they would run the UK in the event of a successful invasion and our surrender. In many ways, they were far more efficient planning for the post-occupation than the actual invasion across the Channel, which many of Hitler’s senior generals doubted would succeed,” historian Max Arthur told The Daily Mail. “Deighton’s fascinating book was one of the first so-called alternate histories where people imagine what if? Thankfully, the RAF triumphed in the Battle of Britain and retained our air superiority. Hitler turned his eyes from the UK and fatefully invaded Russia, so we will never know what might have happened if Hitler’s plan had succeeded.”
“SS-GB” will arrive in the U.K. on BBC One. No word on a U.S. network.
