Got a Tip?

Benicio Del Toro, Laurent Cantet, Gaspar Noe & 4 More To Direct Omnibus ‘7 Days In Havana’

While omnibus films tend to be a mixed bag, we keep going back to them because the talent always seems to promise great things, and in the case of the forthcoming “7 Days In Havana,” that’s no exception.

Benicio Del Toro, Laurent Cantet (“The Class“), Gaspar Noé (“Enter the Void“), Pablo Trapero (“Carancho“), Elia Suleiman, Julio Medem (“Sex And Lucia“) and Juan Carlos Tabio are each set to helm a segment of the forthcoming film. The ambitious undertaking will have recurring characters in each of the shorts and the script will be penned by Cuban novelist Leonardo Padura (he’ll co-write Medem’s and Tabio’s films with the helmers). The loose synopsis of the film will tell the story of the day-to-day life in Havana through the eyes of tourists visiting. But here’s a more comprehensive breakdown of what will feature in the shorts from Variety:

Del Toro will helm a sometimes fictionalized docu on a U.S. tourist’s first 24 hours in Cuba; Medem portrays a love triangle; Trapero tracks an actor who arrives in Havana to receive a prize; Suleiman has a foreigner, whom he will play, wandering through Havana, waiting for something to happen; Cantet chronicles a family’s offering to the ancient religion of Yoruba; Tabio looks at Cubans’ daily trials and joys; Noe follows an exorcism.

Cuban actors Ana de Armas, Mirta Ibarra, Vladimir Cruz and Jorge Perugorria will play the characters that feature in shorts. The Spanish language film will lens in Cuba early next year.
