Movieline got the scoop and posted a video of a Macgyver looking Ben Stiller giving a very tongue-in-cheek tour of his Red Hour Productions and their new home as of this past winter, 20th Century Fox. The mocking video is short but full of very scathing moments like a sizzle reel of Fox’s “best” and most original stuff, featuring nothing but explosions and what looks like Roland Emmerich’s greatest hits…and “Slumdog Millionaire.”
Though, as Movieline speculated, the video seems to be for Red Hour/Fox eyes only and how it leaked is still unknown. Perhaps someone thought it was too good not to share with the rest of the world?
Apparently Ben Stiller himself has emailed Jeff Wells his explanation on the matter. Apparently it was all an inside joke and not as damning as we hoped.
“It seems the Red Hour Industrial got out there! Just wanted to give you the context if you’re interested. It was made for Fox execs and handed out with Red Foxx T-shirts at our initial meeting. We wanted to do something for them to kick things off. They were all in on it, and especially [Tom] Rothman, who is a good friend. [It was] obviously not meant to go out in the world, but I guess that’s pretty hard to stop these days. Hope you’re well. Best, B.”
That’s too bad, we were hoping these were serious and not light-hearted digs at Fox as they would be well deserved. Oh well.- Frank Rutledge
