We may have specific tastes around here at The Playlist (though our list of The 25 Best Films Of The Year reveals we like everything from foreign arthouse flicks to bloody genre entries), but it doesn’t take us much to watch something we otherwise wouldn’t be so invested in. For example, put Ben Mendelsohn in a film, and you can guarantee we’ll buy a ticket, even if it’s for “Robin Hood: Origins.”
Yeah, we really don’t need a blockbuster-sized, presumably franchise-positioned movie about the hero who steals from the rich and gives to the poor, but Ben Mendelsohn as the Sheriff of Nottingham? Okay, we’re in. He joins Taron Egerton as Robin Hood, Jamie Foxx as Little John, and Eve Hewson as Maid Marian in the Joby Harold (“King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword“)-penned movie that finds Robin Hood as a Moorish commander fighting against the English monarchy.
“Peaky Blinders” director Otto Bathurst is behind the camera for this one, which starts lensing next year. [Variety]
