Let's face it, as entertaining as the "Iron Man" movies have been thus far (okay, the second one not so much), the villains haven't been all that great. The first was a game but not particularly memorable Jeff Bridges as the duplicitous Obadiah Stane, the father of Tony Stark's old partner. Shrug. Then in the sequel there was the double dose of the wildly ridiculous Ivan Vanko, played by Mickey Rourke, and the pitch perfect but underused sleazebag Justin Hammer, in a part taken by Sam Rockwell. But the third in the franchise could be the charm.
A new character poster for has dropped for "Iron Man 3" and it's Ben Kingsley looking both bizarre and totally badass. As you already know, he's Mandarin, the baddie who finances terrorists around the world and builds an army of jacked up Extremis soldiers. And with scraggly hair, aviator shades, flowing robes and elaborate rings, he looks like a combination of that odd guy who sells weird stuff at the flea market and someone who just fell into a closet of Johnny Depp's leftovers. In other words, he looks great and we can't wait to see Kingsley take a bite out of this one.
"Iron Man 3" arrives on May 3rd. Incense not included.
But Jeff Bridges understood that "TONY STARK WAS ABLE TO BUILD THIS IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!"
SWAG.
In the last film, it felt like Iron Man was battling for the right to be awesome. The Ayn Rand propaganda was puke worthy. I hope this dude is actually trying to destroy shit this movie. The Skyfall villain didn't really seem ambitious either really.
He doesn't look like a very intimidating bad guy. Why does he look like something out of The Big Lebowski? If you're going for a militaristic villain then don't make him too cartoony or wacky because that takes away the fundamental element of fear and terror. My money is on Michael Shannon for the comic book villain to look for.
