Got a Tip?

Ben Affleck & Kristen Wiig Reveal Plot Details Of Mike Judge’s ‘Extract’

You’ve probably read that Mike Judge’s “Extract,” the follow-up to the studio-maligned, “Idiocracy,” has been given a release date of September 4. Some are calling that release date a dumping ground, but we won’t get into that one right now.

The comedy, which stars Mila Kunis, Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig and J.K. Simmons, follows a flower-extract shop owner (Jason Bateman) as he struggles through his personal and professional problems.

As the film gets closer to release and the stars of the film are asked about it, more and more details are revealed. In fact, Ben Affleck and Kristen Wiig have basically told the gist of the plot in two separate interviews with Collider and the AV/Club respectively.

Affleck says he plays a horrible influence of a friend (sporting a hairy wig, pictured above) and raves about the picture’s star Jason Bateman.

“Jason Bateman, is the lead of the movie. He is spectacular in the movie. If you are a Bateman fan, he is on fire in this movie. This is the third time I’ve worked with Bateman.Mike has a very particular sensibility so it’s not just straight down the middle. That’s one of the things I like about it. I think it’s really funny. I haven’t seen the whole thing, just bits and pieces of it. Jason is great. I’m playing a guy who is kind of the worst friend in the world. I’m Jason’s friend, but it turns out I’m really into drugs, I like to give him drugs. I keep trying to get him high. He tells me he’s got this wife, but he’s attracted to this other woman, but he’s married so he’s conflicted about it. Meanwhile I give him some Xanax. I’m telling him ‘What you should do is hire a gigolo to hit on your wife. Then if she says yes, you won’t feel guilty.’ He’s high and thinks it kind of makes sense. She immediately fucks the gigolo. That’s at the very beginning.”

Wiig says she plays Bateman’s wife and she spills a lot of the goods, the affair likely being with co-star Mila Kunis.

“I play Jason Bateman’s wife. The quick plot is that he is thinking about having an affair, and he basically feels too guilty to just go out and do it. So he figures that if my character had an affair first, then he would be able to do it. So he tries to set me up to have an affair. I don’t want to give away the whole plot, but that’s the main gist of it. He’s so great, I loved working with him.”

Still worth seeing? Sure, “Idiocracy,” might be grossly overrated, but Judge still has some great moments in him and this one sounds funny. “Extract” hits theaters this fall on September 4.

  1. It’s easy to think of Idiocracy as overrated when you think of all of the “Office Space” fans that sought it out and gave it a post-cinematic release life. I’m still on the side of it not being overrated at all. It definitely took me a viewing or two to enjoy it, but I think it’s great.

  2. Nice Bunuel reference. Yeah, I’m definitely aware that it’s been floating around for months. I just never actively sought it out for whatever reason.

If you wanna send over the script, I won’t argue.
