In December of ’07, we brought news of Belle and Sebastian’s principle singer and songwriter Sebastian Murdoch’s plans to find twee-pop extraordinaries for his new musical, “God Help the Girl.” Two years later, Murdoch offers a few more details about his soundtrack magnum opus, which will be released on the Matador record label.
In a blog on the musical’s Myspace page, Murdoch states that the soundtrack album will be released in June. The 12-song album, recorded in Glasgow, features reworkings of Belle & Sebastian tunes “Act of the Apostle” and “Funny Little Frog”. The first single is called “Come Monday Night”, which the script describes as “a lullaby for an overworked boy.” We’re pushing for the title to be tweaked to “Come Monday Morning- A Tribute to The Playlist.” We will keep you posted on the results.
Also mentioned in the blog was Murdoch’s interest in a possible collaboration with Swedish indie popsters Those Dancing Days. Looks like ‘God Help the Girl’ is right on schedule. Let the indie angels sing wistfully from the Heavens.
I’d rather have a completely new album, but i guess this will do. Wasn’t Stuart Murdoch just born in the from generation…that man (boy) belongs in the 60s.
