Relativity hasn’t had a great year. The forever developing remake/reboot of "The Crow" was looking like it was going to shoot this summer, until lead Jack Huston, exited the movie over "scheduling." But it was clear there were bigger problems at play when a month later, the studio put up a slate of movies for sale — including Natalie Portman-starring western "Jane Got A Gun" (now at The Weinstein Company), Sundance comedy "The Bronze" (picked up by Sony Pictures Classics), and "Collide" starring Felicity Jones and Nicholas Hoult (snatched up by Open Road) — in a bid to stave off bankruptcy. But somewhat miraculously they haven’t yet gone completely under and come hell or high water, they are going make "The Crow" fly.

The Wrap reports that Relativity will now start production on "The Crow" in March, with Corin Hardy ("The Hallow") still attached to direct. They will have to find a new actor to play Eric Draven, and presumably Andrea Riseborough and Forest Whitaker, who were previously circling roles, have also moved on. So, why is Relativity hellbent on making this movie? Money.
They’ve apparently already spent over $7 million on "The Crow" even though it has yet to shoot a frame, and another $2.5 million to hang on to the rights to the project. Basically, if they can start filming in March as they plan, they won’t lose the property. It’s not the greatest circumstances to be making a movie under, but it’s not like it hasn’t been done before in Hollywood.
The real question will be who will decide to take the lead role in what seems like a cursed project. Considering cameras roll in about five months, we should know soon enough.
