According to Deadline, that’s exactly what’s happening. The outlet says that Warner Bros. is going to send “Elvis” to the Cannes Film Festival in May for a star-studded world premiere at the event. The film stars Austin Butler as Elvis and Tom Hanks (and his prosthetics) as Colonel Tom Parker, the manager of the musical icon. Not only is the subject matter something that would surely excite film fans, as Elvis Presley was a legendary figure, but it also marks the first feature from the “Moulin Rouge” filmmaker since 2013’s “The Great Gatsby.”

“Elvis” also joins Tom Cruise’s “Top Gun: Maverick” as the first couple of films to get named to the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. Obviously, this won’t be an event filled with A-list, big-budget spectacles, but these are two films that are sure to garner quite a bit of attention for the festival.
It’s unclear if “Elvis” will be playing out of competition or what, but we should find this out soon enough, as the details for Cannes begin to become clear. Cannes is expected to begin on May 17 and run until May 28. “Elvis” will debut in theaters shortly after that on June 24.
