“B-movie” shouldn’t be a dirty word, and they deserve screens and your attention at the cinema…
On this episode of Adjust Your Tracking, Joe and I reunited after a monthlong absence—just not much worth discussing for us lately—and we dig into a topic that’s near and dear: lower-budgeted genre movies that actually get to screen at movie theaters. Believe it or not, movies like “Upgrade,” our main topic of discussion on this episode, we’re easier to find at the cinema not that long ago. Often these days, even the very good ones are relegated immediately to VOD (see “Brawl in Cell Block 99“ or “Kicks“). Not so for “Upgrade,” which despite not even getting a review here at The Playlist, had a solid opening weekend at the box office and is actually a fun low budget genre movie totally worth your time and money. See at the cinema and keep these movies alive.
LISTEN AYT #175: Women, Unfairly Pushed To Brutal Extremes Connect “Tully” and “Revenge”
The rest of this episode we tie in a new edition of HOLD UP with the similarly sci-fi/action B-movie styled “Class Of 1999,” a gem of a movie from 1990 that doesn’t so much hold up as a good effort but is a blast to watch. Especially if you like laughing at a movie. Next week we should return with the latest horror movie release by A24, “Hereditary” (glowing Playlist review here), which is as great as you’ve heard. That will be a fun discussion.
