As the “Avengers: Endgame” hype officially dies down, with the home video release of the biggest film of all time, fans have largely applauded the combined efforts of the Russo Brothers, Kevin Feige, and big names in the cast and crew. However, as revealed in a new Wired mini-documentary, the name that has been thus far been left out, but should probably be included up there with the directors and producers, is Jen Underdahl.
In the almost-20-minute video, breaking down all the major VFX work that went into both “Avengers: Endgame” and its predecessor, “Avengers: Infinity War,” Underdahl reveals all the behind-the-scenes tricks that went into making characters like Thanos, Smart Hulk, Rocket, and Thicc Thor come to life. And believe me, when you see the amount of detail and work that goes into this from the various VFX houses, such as ILM and WETA, to create convincing characters from practically nothing, you’ll want to personally deliver the Oscar to each and every person in the talented group of artists.
But what might be the most surprising aspect of the Wired video is just how much of ‘Endgame,’ specifically is actually digital. Sure, the characters that are larger than life can’t be created with practical effects (well, all but Thicc Thor, who is largely all practical, believe it or not), but there was a ton of work that went into creating pretty much every background you see, as well as the costumes that the characters wear.
Seriously, when you realize that the timeline Marvel Studios used to bring these films to the big screen created the necessity to digitally create many of the costumes that characters wear, you’ll start to think that ‘Endgame’ might be an animated film after all.
