Got a Tip?

Ava DuVernay & Lupita Nyong’o Teaming For Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Intelligent Life’

Ava DuVernay & Lupita Nyong'oWell, that was fast. It was just yesterday with word that "Selma" director Ava DuVernay had a couple projects being floated her way, Disney‘s fantasy "A Wrinkle In Time," and Amblin‘s sci-fi ‘Intelligent Life,’ and less than 24 hours later, the wheels are starting to turn.

THR reports that DuVernay is now circling "Intelligent Life," with "12 Years A Slave" Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o in negotiations to star. Penned by Colin Trevorrow and his "Jurassic World" collaborator Derek Connolly, it’s actually a new version of "The Ambassador" that tells the story of a low-level worker at the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs who accidentally makes first contact with a beautiful woman from another world, and risks his job and more when they are threatened from things at home and beyond. Nyong’o would be playing the alien.

Production on the film begins this summer, but don’t count out "A Wrinkle In Time." Apparently Disney is in no rush, so DuVernay could still wind up making that one too.

  1. Well. Lupita is an actress. She\’s entitled to take on roles that are challenging and engaging, does it matter that she\’s playing someone otherworldly? Especially considering how her beauty is constantly described as otherworldly and ethereal? I think she\’s making interesting choices and I like that she\’s acting in both theatre and on the big screen.

  2. So DuVernay is going to try science fiction. I wonder how she is going to try to work a racism subtext into it. If she does (and thats probably a foregone conclusion) then it will be another movie of hers I take a pass on. Maybe she will surprise me, but I doubt it.

  3. Sadly! Lupita\’s post Oscar choices are not for you and I to understand. But they are what is best or suited for Lupita, as she wishes. We just need to support them box office wise. And make sure she continue to make choices that sometimes surprises us, and other times delights us. 🙂

  4. So Nyongo once agains plays a supporting character that will be disguised as something other than herself? I don\’t understand her post Oscar choices.
