“The Innocents”
Synopsis: Two teenagers run away from the repressive families to be together and are thrown into a journey of self-discovery and latent powers, which greatly tests their love.
What You Need To Know: Another installment in a long, long, list of Netflix original series, “The Innocents” is another example of the streaming service catering to niche genres and, in this case, they aren’t too far off the mark with a logline equal measures familiar as it is curious. Melding high concept science fiction and fantasy with more traditional romantic bearings, showrunners (newly minted) Simon Duric and Hania Elkington have quite a gamble on their hands. Guy Pearce in a leading role certainly doesn’t hurt.

“Jack Ryan”
Synopsis: Up-and-coming CIA analyst Jack Ryan is wrenched from his desk job into the field after he uncovers a pattern in terrorist communications that launches him into the center of a dangerous gambit.
What You Need To Know: It’s hard to be completely sold on the affable John Krasinski playing action hero Jack Ryan but, as he’s already displayed with this year’s “A Quiet Place,” his range of talents surpasses what he displayed for so many years on “The Office.” Co-starring Abbie Cornish and Wendell Pierce, this marks yet another adaptation of the Tom Clancy novels, this time with enough time at their disposal to further explore the characters motives and dynamics.
Release Date: August 31 on Amazon Prime
“Ozark”
Synopsis: A Chicago-based financial advisor secretly relocates his family to the Missouri Ozarks after a money laundering scheme goes bad, and becomes entangled with the local criminals.
What You Need To Know: Your mom’s favorite show, “Ozark” returns to Netflix after what felt like quite a bit of build up before something of a muted response, but the reaction to Jason Bateman and the addictive quality of a male character “breaking bad” was enough to keep viewers engaged. Despite a familiar (tired even) story, the cast that included both Bateman and always great Laura Linney elevated the rudimentary material and season 2 will follow the continued fall outs of Martin’s actions. Chilly and gripping, season 2 promises to cement itself as a must-binge show.
Release Date: August 31 on Netflix
Saul is looking better and better.
You always gotta be here with the back handed insults don’t you ? Ozark is “your Mom’s favorite show” indeed. But then again, the burden of such a superior intellect must be crushing …
