When Jason Statham was announced as the lead in the new, untitled film (previously called ‘Five Eyes‘) from director Guy Ritchie, people were excited. It’s been a little while since the two have worked together and you could argue that Statham’s best work has been with the British director. Well, now it appears that some other major names are joining the feature, making the project even more interesting.
According to Deadline, rapper Bugzy Malone is joining Aubrey Plaza and Cary Elwes in the new Guy Ritchie film. The untitled film is expected to begin production in Qatar this week and stars Statham as an MI6 guns-and-steel agent that is hired by a global intelligence agency to work with a CIA agent to help stop the sale of new technology that could greatly damage the world. And as you might expect, Statham’s MI6 agent is a stark contrast to his female CIA agent partner. Hijinks and action ensue.
Though Malone is probably best known for his work in music, he did recently team up with Ritchie on the film “The Gentlemen.” So, it makes sense that he would reunite with the filmmaker on the new project. However, for Plaza, this film marks the first collaboration between the actress and British filmmaker. It’ll be interesting to see how her typically-comedic sensibilities play off of Statham in the new film. Who knows? Maybe Aubrey Plaza is a secret action badass and we just had no idea. If so, then can we officially name “Parks & Rec” as the breeding ground for surprise action heroes, after Chris Pratt already turned into a superhero? And who’s next? Let’s see what you got, Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman.

With production expected to begin this week, it’s unlikely we’ll see the untitled action film arrive in 2021. And with the current slate of films being delayed until who knows when, then it’s even more likely we’ll see Statham and Ritchie return sometime in 2022.
