In “Atlanta” season three, we saw a side of the gang we’d never seen before: out of their element and fish out of water. Season three of “Atlanta” found “Earn” (Donald Glover), “Alfred’ Paper Boi’ Miles” (Brian Tyree Henry), “Darius” (LaKeith Stanfield), and “Van” (Zazie Beetz) in the midst of a successful European tour, as the group navigated their new surroundings as outsiders, and struggle to adjust to the newfound success they had aspired to.

Well, if you hoped to touch down to the ATL one more time before “Atlanta” said goodbye—the fourth one is their final season—you’re in luck. By the looks of the new trailer, the “Atlanta” gang has returned from their European tour, but how have they changed, have they splintered off, and will things ever be the same?
FX’s innovative comedy “Atlanta” by Donald Glover centered, at first, on two cousins working in the city’s rap music scene in order to better their lives and the lives of their families. But it was constantly evolving and expanding. Glover always aspired to the hood or rap version of “Twin Peaks,” and he certainly delivered magical realism and dark surrealism in the show. Over three seasons, “Atlanta,” which always aspired to show you a side of the city you’ve never seen, did much more than that—going off piste really, and showing viewers stories and characters totally unrelated to the show, but still part and parcel with its funny, tragic and absurdist view of life, race, ironic socio-economic situations and just the hellscape of white people too.
Donald Glover still serves as Executive Producer on the series, along with Stephen Glover, Hiro Murai, Stefani Robinson, Paul Simms, and Dianne McGunigle, many of whom write and direct on the series. The fourth and final season of “Atlanta” airs September 15 on FX while streaming on Hulu. Check out the new trailer below.
