Got a Tip?

‘Atlanta’ Season 4 Teaser: The Final Season Of Donald Glover’s Acclaimed Series Will Premiere In September

After a nearly four-year delay—season two aired in 2018—the COVID-delayed and critically acclaimed FX series “Atlanta” finally returned for season three in March of this year. Taking place almost entirely in Europe, season three of “Atlanta” found “Earn” (Donald Glover), “Alfred’ Paper Boi’ Miles” (Brian Tyree Henry), “Darius” (LaKeith Stanfield), and “Van” (Zazie Beetz) in the midst of a successful European tour, as the group navigated their new surroundings as outsiders, and struggle to adjust to the newfound success they had aspired to. Since then, all the actors on the show have become huge stars, and thus, it seems it felt everyone wanted to end while they were on top rather than drag things out.

Season three was, frankly, both a frustrating mixed-bag and a brilliant season, some of it centered in Europe with the main “Atlanta” gang and guest stars like Liam Neeson, playing a fictionalized version of itself, and some episodes totally unrelated to the narrative—more just slice-of-life vignettes about white privilege, the hypocrisy of white America and white supremacy and the way Black Americans are affected by it all. Now, “Atlanta” did these dream-like magical reality episodes like this before, but the strangeness of season three was all these episodes on their own were genius, and yet the whole felt disjointed in a way.

Will they resume that approach for their fourth and final season, and will the gang return from their European tour? Yep, “Atlanta” shot seasons three and four back to back, so season four is done and will arrive in the fall.

Donald Glover serves as the “Atlanta” executive producer, along with Stephen Glover, Hiro Murai, Stefani Robinson, Paul Simms, and Dianne McGunigle, most of whom either direct or write episodes. “Atlanta” is produced by FX Productions, and while no specific date has been disclosed yet, in a just-released teaser for season four, FX revealed that the fourth and final season will arrive in September.

“Atlanta” has always been one of the best shows on television, period; its first two seasons, at the very least, are some of the best TV ever. The question is, will the show stick the landing and circle back to what it did so brilliantly, to begin with, or will the adventurous creators just do whatever the hell they want to, critics and fans be damned? Find out in September. Watch the new teaser below.
