We like Lee Pace. He’s got real leading man chops, as evidenced by his appealing performance in the short-lived “Pushing Daisies,” or as the romantic lead in the sleeper hit “Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day,” but he can also pull off character parts like the the transgendered nightclub performer in the little-seen “Soldier’s Girl,” or his cameo in Tom Ford’s “A Single Man.” But we’d like him to start getting better parts, please.
While the actor has a key supporting role in the upcoming, much-buzzed-about “Ceremony,” alongside Michael Angarano and Uma Thurman, his most recent appearance was as the thankless human foil in the CGI talking-animal train-wreck “Marmaduke,” and now it looks like he’s set to join the actor’s wasteland that is the Twilight franchise for the two-part final installment, “Breaking Dawn.”
According to EW, who confirmed rumors that initially appeared at E! Online, Pace is in negotiations to play Garrett, a nomadic vampire and friend of Edward (Robert Pattinson), who aids the Cullens in their final battle against the Volturi. And I think we deserve some kudos for making it through that sentence with a degree of sincerity.
On the plus side, “Twilight: Eclipse” was apparently the least awful installment so far, and in director Bill Condon, they have a higher calibre of director than the likes of Chris Weitz or David Slade. On the downside, Condon also made the wretched “Dreamgirls,” and, well, it’s a movie where a werewolf falls in love with a baby. Either way, we hope it’ll get Pace enough momentum to get a decent part in something that we’ll actually see, otherwise it’s just an empty paycheck.
Pace deserves way better. He was amazing in 'The Fall'. But as you say if he gets exposure….
I agree. He was a great lead in the Fall and I believe he can play whatever is given to him. Hopefully his name won't be overshadowed by the word Twilight after this. I have my fingers crossed for him.
