Arnold Schwarzenegger Still Iffy About ‘Terminator’ Role; ‘Expendables’ Cameo Not So Much

So Arnold Schwarzenegger could return to the big screen this year in McG’s “Terminator Salvation” starring Christian Bale and Sylvester Stallone’s “The Expendables” action-hero epic he wrote and is directing, yes? Mmmm, yes and no. He’s the governor of California and mostly retired. He’s ok with doing a cameo here and there, but he realizes as a politician who wants to be taken seriously, he can’t do both.

So he’s not entirely too keen to appear in ‘Salvation’ because he doesn’t want his name exploited as being a Terminator, which would be, what he thinks, is false advertising (whatever).

“I said to the director when they began that I wish them the best of luck, that I’m happy that they move forward with the franchise, I am very happy as the governor and they should try to find a way of doing a story that does not include me at all, not even one single shot in it. To have them promote the movie and say, ‘Arnold is in the movie’ and everyone thinks I’m the Terminator and in fact you only see one second of me in there and so I don’t think that’s the right thing to do. And you know that’s the danger of that, and that’s why I feel reluctant to be part of the movie in the first place. So it doesn’t get promoted that way.”

For Sylvester Stallone and “The Expendables” however, he’ll play himself, so he’s a bit more forgiving.

“Naturally when [Sly] asked me if I would do a cameo, which will just be something quick, like I walk out of a hotel or out of a office building and he will walk up and we will bump into each other and there will be some mumbling and then we will walk off. So it will be something very simple, that will be again, just a cameo, so that’s what we’re going to do. I promised him I’d do that and I’m looking forward to that.”

Gotta love how Arnold calls acting and exchanging dialogue, “mumbling.” Ahh, always the master of his craft that one. [TheArnoldFans.com via FirstShowing]

BTW: Stallone apparently injured himself during fight rehearsals for “The Expendables” last week and messed up his thumb, but it doesn’t sound life-altering unless he has to go over-the-top in any arm wrestling scenes. Also “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” TV actress Charisma Carpenter has joined the cast as well.
