With “Superman Vs. Batman” now moving ahead, fans continue to speculate and wonder what kind of shape it will take, and more crucially, who will wear the cape and cowl. We’ve already wondered aloud with our feature What Kind Of Batman Will Superman Face? 5 Choices For ‘Superman & Batman,’ and if a recent rumor is true, it seems they are looking for someone a bit older. But before we get to that, let’s count someone out: Armie Hammer.
As you might recall, the actor was originally slated to play Bruce Wayne in George Miller‘s aborted “Justice League” that fell apart weeks away from rolling in front of cameras (you can read all about that in our feature, 20 Superhero Movies That Couldn’t Fly All The Way To The Big Screen). But now Hammer has done something of an about face, claiming he’s really not into the genre at all and is worried about the preconceived notions that come with men wearing tights…or something.
“I think if Henry [Cavill] and I did [‘The Man From ‘U.N.C.L.E.‘] and then a superhero film straight after, people might start to wonder about us…” he (hopefully) joked (?) to Metro (via Variety), before claiming: “I’m not actually a big fan of superhero films. If you have a guy who is supposed to be invulnerable, then what’s the point?” Says the guy who starred in “The Lone Ranger“…
Anyway, whatever Hammer’s mixed feelings are on the subject, he would be too young anyway. According to Batman On Film (yeah, we know), the filmmakers are looking for ” a grizzled veteran who has been on the job…for several years” possibly in their “mid-40s.” And hell, at 44 years old, our choice of “Game Of Thrones” star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau fits in there. Feel free to use that one WB.
So yeah, stuff to think about as Zack Snyder and David Goyer continue to tinker and develop “Superman Vs. Batman” for the big screen.
Two words: Val Kilmer. Think of it, if he got himself back into proper shape he could fit the description of an older, grizzled Batman. Plus, it means that the Burton Batman flicks would become cannon within the "Man Of Steel" cinematic universe.
Can we just all accept Colin Farrell is the best guy for the job and move on? C'mon, he has the acting chops and the physicality.
Nicolaj Coster Waldau is a rubbish choice.
Batman in his 40's? How about Christian Bale. He's 39.
Hammer's agent and Hollywood better not f_ck up, this guys legit.
Jon Hamm… worked with Snyder before (admittedly on a not particularly well liked movie) and he has the chin, the charm and the darkness
'a grizzled veteran who has been on the job…for several years" possibly in their "mid-40s."'
*cough* Josh Brolin *cough*
Yeah, make fun of Batman on Film.com, because The Playlist is renowned for its scoops.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau speaks with a strong Danish accent so he'd be a fucking rubbish choice.
