“I think they’re just worried about shooting the first part of that movie which doesn’t involve my character,” Viggo Mortensen told ComingSoon in an interview for “The Road.” “My character is around at times — in the middle, but it would only be if they made a second movie or connecting movie that connected ‘The Hobbit’ to ‘The Lord of the Rings’ that I might appear, which would be great.”
Hmm, but the filmmakers — director Guillermo del Toro and producer Peter Jackson — have already said that they’ve dropped the idea for a “connecting” film between “The Hobbit” and ‘LOTR’ and instead are simply just breaking the ‘Hobbit’ into two films. Does that mean no Aragorn/Viggo at all?
Surely, even if they can’t place him in there organically, they’ll still find a place for him and many of the others to at least cameo briefly. Though fans surely want more concrete storylines for some of these beloved characters. As much as we too dig some of the characters, story first, people. Would be nice if they returned, but it’s not the be all end all. Filming on “The Hobbit” is supposed to start March 2010. We’ll see if that date sticks.
I think Aragorn's pre-Rings "Strider" persona is perfect for an unexpected but badass extended cameo in one of the Hobbit films. Since he is mentioned in the book, del Toro could expound on that and have him play a crucial, though small role screentime-wise in the film.
I think his character could fit in much better than a Legolas or Gimli cameo.
BTW, my vote is for Michael Sheen to play Bilbo. He'd be great and can definitely look like a hobbit.
Aragorn is not mentioned in the Hobbit and it would be stupid to have him anywhere but in the background of Rivendell in passing. Legolas & Gimli are too young and would not be anywhere near the places this story takes place. And the four main Hobbits from TLOR have not yet been born. Cameos for all these charactesr would be the stupidest thing ever.
