That’s weird. I was just listening to Apparat‘s The Devil’s Walk and his collaborative album with Ellen Allien, Orchestra Of Bubbles, in the past week or so, and thinking this dude would be an inspired choice to score a film. And it seems director Drake Doremus had the same thought too.
The German electronic artist has been tapped to score Doremus’ upcoming sci-fi romance "Equals" starring Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult. Penned by Nathan Parker ("Moon"), Screen Daily reveals the full plot details for the film, and they’re pretty interesting:
Equals tells the story of Silas (Hoult) who lives in a future society called The Collective. The inhabitants of this modern world are a new breed of humans called Equals. Equals are peaceful, calm, fair, and polite and life in The Collective is perfect; there is no greed, no poverty, no violence, and no emotion. But a new disease is threatening everyone: SOS, or Switched-On-Syndrome, is activating in its victims everything they thought they’d escaped: depression, sensitivity, fear, love but once a person is overtaken with SOS, they are sent away to The Den, and never seen again.
When Silas is infected, he becomes an outcast, but he notices one person who seems to understand what he’s going through. Nia (Stewart) has feelings, but she seems to be able to hide them. When he confronts her, they discover a connection that quickly takes over everything. They feel love and intimacy for the first time in their lives but the only way for them to insure their survival is to escape.
Frankly, it sounds like any number of YA tales on paper, but in the hands of Doremus, who has already shown a sensitivity to complex relationships in films "Like Crazy" and "Breathe In," it could be very interesting stuff. And Apparat could certainly provide some interesting texture.
Production will begin in August in Japan and Singapore. Until then, check out Apparat’s "Komponent (Telefon Tel Aviv Remix)" featured in "Crazy, Stupid, Love" and "Goodbye" from the season four finale of "Breaking Bad." [Film Music Reporter]
Seems really good … but I think I know why Kristen got the role … […] there is no greed, no poverty, no violence, and no emotion […] LOL
Like Crazy was so good but, Breathe In was awful. The casting was off for Breathe In. I like Guy P but he was not right in the role and there was no chemistry between he and Felicity. If the casting works and there is chemistry between Nic and Kristen it should work. It should help that they are friends.
seems cool, I wanted to see it, K-Stew let you keep succeeding
When it was first announced, it was billed as a remake of 1984 (on a smaller scale). Filming in Asia just makes it seem like they're borrowing from Her, which was filmed in Shanghai for the future. Jennifer Lawrence turned it down, which makes me think the script isn't that good. The whole thing lacks originality, and poor Nick Hoult has proved he can't carry a film. Breathe In is plodding and dull, and this looks like another Doremus indie that's going nowhere.
I CAN SEE IT NOW ….PLOP MOVIE. SHE CAN'T ACT!. END OF HER TALENTLESS CAREER IS COMING.
this will be very very powerful movie, I can't wait to see, won't come soon enough for me. KP and NH will be so amazing, you can alreay feel the positive vipes!!!!
Sounds interesting. Cool team and I like Stewart!
This movie has all the makings of "amazing and a must see"! I hope that production is on schedule cause it can't come soon enough for me.
Orchestra of Bubbles is a modern electronica masterpiece IMO, an album that has never waivered from regurlar rotation since its release for me personally.
This is very intriguing news!
I loved 'Like Crazy' and especially 'Breathe In', but that synopsis doesn't sound good…
I cannot wait for this film. Love Doremus' other works, and the plot here is very intriguing. Add in an excellent cast and A+ production team, and this is a must-see for me.
